Tea With A Refugee

Tea With A Refugee
2019
Overview
How can we show the human behind the label of refugee and evoke empathy across cultures? → By creating a poetic documentary graphic novel where illustration and narrative formed an intimate encounter. Using Chinese ink and monotype printing techniques, the visuals became abstract impressions that felt like memories of struggle, longing, and resilience. Each of the 14 stories gave a face and voice to refugees searching for home and missing their families. Readers were quite literally seated at the table, transforming the act of reading into a shared meeting. The project created space for empathy and recognition, turning graphic storytelling into a bridge between worlds and cultures.
